IRS Help? :) (especially when phone lines are jammed?!!!)

Tired of waiting on the phone, or are not looking forward to calling and waiting on hold for a long time?

Well, think of “help” as in the subfolder on their website! Yes, IRS.gov/help

And BOOM! 🙂 Yes, the 1st choice in the side menu there is the Interactive Tax Assistant ( irs.gov/help/ita ).
It is seriously good. It’s almost as good as talking with a tax professional.

For reals, check it out. #taxtip 🙂

P.S. #2 – For many other things — instead of calling — create an “account”! That’s right, just like adding on the word ‘help’ go to: irs.gov/account

another keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot in Windows 10?

Windows key + F (press them together at the same time)

Yes, that will instantly take a picture of your full screen.
It will launch a Feedback Hub window.
But close it without even letting it load. It’s ok.

Now look in your “Pictures” folder.

Look for the new subfolder that starts with the word “Feedback…” followed by a bunch of letters and numbers.

Open it. There’s the screenshot. Boom!

Cool, eh?

P.S. There is also the triple key combo Windows key + Shift + S,
or the double combo of Windows key + W.
Each has it’s own benefits. Win + F is still cool.

P.P.S. Macs/macOS? Option + Shift + 3, a triple combo. Or try it while pressing 4 instead to get crosshairs to select just part of your screeen!

Apple makes me sad, again…

The maker of Macs and iPhones — Apple — is suing the little guy, a small company because their logo is a pear looking like it’s hanging or been picked off a tree. Really Apple? This is not the first time, is it?! See this news story about it.

Additionally, Apple has sold a piece of their soul and probably will continue to do so to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) when they ask them to control what apps are in the app store like for Hong Kong residents. ‘Tis very sad.

I love their hardware and products but they are overpriced. I used to own a few Macs but ended up selling both of them. Will never buy one new again.

Lastly, it takes more mousing movement and keyboard strokes to get things done on macOS. Avoid Mac’s if you have carpal tunnel syndrome or another RSI(repetitive stress injury) in your wrists, hands, or arms. Will blog about it later showing a side by side table comparison of macOS vs Windows 10 vs XFCE or a similar Linux environment.

Tis a shame. Apple used to rock. Please stop it. Don’t sell your soul for a buck.

How to Take a picture of what’s on your screen?!

Trying to show someone what’s on your screen?!  Frustrated because you don’t know how.  Well here you go:

  • Windows — use “Snipping Tool”;
    you can find it on your Start Menu, OR by pressing the ‘windows’ button towards the bottom left of your keyboard.
  • Mac laptop/desktop (MacOS) — use __ or the keyboard combos for it — Shift-Command-3 or Shift-Command-4;
    or search for it via Spotlight (little magnifying glass at top right) – search for “Screenshot.”1
  • Android — press the buttons for ‘down volume’ and ‘power’ at the same time.  Then let go.
  • iPhone/iPad’s (iOS) — press the ‘side button’ and ‘volume up’ buttons at the same time.  Then let go.
  • Linux/BSD/GNU — search for and/or install the “Screenshot” app.

There you go, now you can Save it and then Share it with yourself or friends!

#1 – Couldn’t remember the name of the Mac app but I found it at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201361

Need a screenshot? Am loving Firefox’s built-in tool.

Just wanted to do a micro-blog post here about the Screenshotting tool in Firefox.  I love it!  Screenshots from websites are what I mostly do so having it right in the browser instead of having to do a keyboard combo on Mac or open Snipping Tool on Windows makes it really convenient.  It has a page block or element feature that is better than any screen shot tool/app that I’ve seen so far.  Thank you,  Mozilla Foundation!
